MEDITATION
Meditation calms the mind, the body and the spirit.
This encourages clear thinking, natural healing and often enables
an expansion of awareness to take place. More often than not you
either come across meditation because it has been recommended
to you by a medical practitioner, suggested by a friend or you
stumble across it on a spiritual path. Then comes the task of
learning How.
Many individuals find it difficult to make time
for meditation let alone DO IT.
I remember when I first tried. I failed miserably and then proceeded
to complain to myself because I never found time and I simply
could not do it. Whenever I tried to meditate, my mind would not
stop chattering, reminding me of tasks to be done, messages to
be given, shopping lists and so on. In addition to that I could
not sit still. Just when I thought I had cracked it my nose would
itch terribly. The more determined I was not to scratch this itch
the more intensely unbearable it became. So I did what many people
do – I GAVE UP.
It was great, no more mental torment. Meditation
was not for me. I do not know what all the fuss was about.
One evening, I went to a local venue to listen a
talk on past life regression. The room soon filled up with people,
quite a few of these people seemed to know the topic very well,
whilst a few of us stood quietly in the background letting the
information flow over us. I was one of the timid shy people who
knowing nothing other than I had a fascination with this subject
happily let the information flow over me. After an age we were
all seated in readiness for the talk. The lady giving the talk
immediately asked us to stand. I started to mumble things inside
my head – why don’t you
make up your mind. This is going to be one of those nights they
cannot organise a simple talk. What have I let myself in for?
The Lady then instructed everyone to focus on a candle
she was lighting before our eyes, ya!
right I can not see her never mind the candle there are so many
tall people about, if they are going to do something like this
they should organise the seating. Shorties at the front and these
great big monsters at the back.
My mind continued in this very unfriendly fashion, I believe
today it would be described as stress.
The speaker then proceeded to talk us through a
guided meditation, my mind started to chuckle saying I
can’t even meditate in the comfort of my own home, you have
got to be joking if you think I can do it here in a room full
of people AND they are strangers. Somehow the fact that
they were all strangers made things worse in my head. I watched
the others They are not doing it really, how can they. They
are just pretending this left me with only one option.
I joined in, I pretended too . . . . . . .
“Seven . . . . .Eight . . . . .Nine . . . . . and Ten .
. . . . and now if you would all be seated I am talking tonight
about ……”
Did I Meditate? – you better believe it. The
talk although interesting was not the highlight of that particular
night. I had managed to meditate and this was achieved in a room
full of people, strangers!. So, if
you can do it in a room full of people you can do this at home
my mind continued to chatter, but it had changed its tune.
A group meditation offers many benefits. In a group
you gain from the opportunity to share your experience with other
members of the group. By sharing with others in this manner all
members of a group can learn from each other. You can also be
reassured that your experience is not just something made up in
your own head. The places were we meet have been prepared to create
a comfortable space in which your meditation and self- awareness
is enhanced.
In some groups the meditation is followed by an
activity. The activities might be How to look at an aura ~ Working
with Chakras ~ Giving and receiving healing ~ Have a go at Psycometry.
These activities give each member a chance to explore different
avenues in a supportive non-judgemental safe environment.
